Player Focus on Star Striker Alexander
The first member of the Fountainbridge squad to take part in the Player Focus section of the official website is striker Keith Alexander.
Keith was one of the star performers in pre-season and notched an impressive 8 goals in 5 matches, including a stunning hattrick in Fountainbridge's only win to date against Alba AFC.
"I am a little surprised to notch 8 goals in 5 matches during
pre-season as we had a few tough games in there." Said Keith.
The highlight of those
goals would have to be the hat-trick against Alba in a 4-3 victory. It was
great to score a late winner to give the club our first victory."
When asked if he has set any targets for goals in the competitive season, Alexander replied, "I would not like to set my sights too high
but if I was to get into double figures then I would consider that a good
first season back playing competitive football."

After being away from 11-a-side football for a number of years Alexander spoke about how he has found the step up from 5-a-side;
"I have found playing 90 minutes tough going as this is my first full
season back playing for many years. I stopped playing football at the age of
11 due to serious growing pains injury in my knees. I decided to give 11s a
go after playing a year of regular 5s which really helped my touch and
fitness and obviously by playing regular games I will only get fitter and
more used to playing the full 90 minutes."
There has been many changes in the Fountainbridge lineup throughout pre-season, but one thing that has started to be quite consistent is the front pairing of Keith and Ian Fleming. When asked about how Keith has found playing alongside fellow striker Fleming he replied;
"I have really enjoyed playing in a front pairing with Ian as he is a very
good player to play alongside. He puts in alot of running and effort over
the 90 minutes and can hold the ball up well aswell as getting good flick
ons for me to run onto. We seem to combine well and bring the wingers into
the game and know the runs we are going to make so I am hoping we will be
amongst the goals this season for Fountainbridge."
As a newly formed club still finding it's feet, the first season for Fountainbridge was always going to be a tough one. But Keith has been impressed with the setup at The Bridge at the moment:
"The setup at the club is very impressive, from the website to the
organisation for training and games. We have a couple of very good sponsors
and a great bar at Cargo for post match shandys!! John as manager is very
keen to help everyone in the squad and has always has positive things to
tell you after training/games. Laurie does an excellent job on the website
and attending League meetings etc. while Chris has secured us a good
sponsorship deal so the club is in good hands! I just hope that our
performances throughout the season can match the excellent setup at
Fountainbridge!"

Finally Keith spoke after the opening day defeat to Lothian Star at Gyle, a game which saw him grab the first competitive goal for The Bridge (also the first booking too but we won't go into that one!):
"Our first game of the season was a very
disappointing loss to Lothian Star. We lost too many early goals and the
game was effectively over after half an hour. After that we got our heads
down and actually played some good football, creating good chances and
'drawing the second half' 1-1. I managed to score our goal but personally
felt that I could have had at least 1 more. It is always difficult to stay
motivated during a game when early goals go in but the lads stuck in well
and our second half was much better so here is hoping we can carry that on
to our next game on Thursday against Athletico Star."
Everyone at The Bridge will be hoping for more of the same from Keith that we saw on Sunday - goals that is not yellow cards!
